Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Omnio?

    What is Omnio?

Omnio is a competitive radio bus system for the building automation. Omnio is able to control lighting, shading and heating on an intelligent basis.

  • What's the excellence in Omnio?

    What's the excellence in Omnio?

Highest flexibility during installation, wide individuality in implementation, and maximum user comfort at minimum effort.

  • Which organisation is behind Omnio?

    Which organisation is behind Omnio?

Omnio is a brand of the swiss company called AWAG Elektrotechnik AG in 8604 Volketswil. AWAG is in charge of the development, production an sales of the Omnio devices. AWAG emphasises "Swiss made". Omnio devices are developed and produces in Switzerland.

  • What technology is used?

    What technology is used?

Omnio is based on the reliable EnOcean technology defined by the international standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-1x The radio transmitters works energy self-sufficient and needs neither batteries nor cable.

  • What's EnOcean alliance?

    What's EnOcean alliance?

Worldwide leading corporations within the building industry have joined forces in the EnOcean alliance in order to realise innovative automation solutions for sustainable building projects.

The innovative EnOcean technology is carried by the international active EnOcean alliance including 170 full members and over 400 associated companies. This creates confidence and offers the required protection of investment compared with propritetary isolated applications.

  • What's the advantage of radio transmitters?

What's the advantage of radio transmitters?

Omnio radio transmitters may be placed independently. They neither need wiring nor batteriers, nor any maintenance.

  • What is the maximum range of a radio transmitter?

What is the maximum range of a radio transmitter?

Inside up to 30 m, outside up to 100 m. Thick concrete walls and ceilings, armouring irons, metal furniture and coated windows may decrease the range massively.

  • How safe is Omnio?

    How safe is Omnio?

Omnio is a part of  the electric installation and doesn't require any central control unit. If any interference should occur, only individual parts of the system will fail.

  • Does Omnio require internet connection?

    Does Omnio require internet connection?

Omnio works without internet and therefore cannot be attacked by an hackers.

  • Are there any different designs?

    Are there any different designs?

Omnio actuators come as flush mounted devices (UP-actuators), as cable actuators and as DIN rail mounted devices placed in distributing cabinets (REG-actuators). The functional range of each design is exactly the same.

  • How are Omnio devices configured?

    How are Omnio devices configured?

All Omnio actuators can be configured by using a screw driver and following the detailed information on hand.

However to configure a complete project it is recommended to use the planning software E-Tool. The applied technology is called ARCO (AWAG Remote Comissioning for Omnio).

Or simply order pre-configured single devices or even complete projects ex works.

  • How are Omnio projects documented?

    How are Omnio projects documented?

Within the planning software E-Tool you can create the full documentation of an Omnio project at the push of a button.

  • What is ARCO?

    What is ARCO?

ARCO is the abbreviation for AWAG Remote Comissioning for Omnio. ARCO is a technology developed by AWAG. All Omnio actuators can be easily configured via radio whitout manual access to the device. All you need is the software called E-Tool.

  • What are the different E-Tool licenses?

What are the different E-Tool licenses?

E-Tool Free: View existing project data and documentation via (PDF), configuration RS485-GW via cable.

E-Tool silver license: Configuration of cable blind actuator KXJ.

E-Tool gold license: Complete configuration of all Omnio actuators.

E-Tool demo license: Complete configuration of all Omnio actuators lasting 60 days, after that the program runs out

  • What is "EEP xx-yy-zz"?

    What is "EEP xx-yy-zz"?

EEP is the abbreviation for EnOcean Equipment Profile. All equipment based on the EnOcean radio technology, interact through standard protocol. These protocols are set and monitored by the EnOcean alliance. This ensures the possibility to use devices of different manufacturers within the same project.

Please find the exact specification of the EEP's here.

  • Is it possible to attach more than one blind motor to an output channel?

Is it possible to attach more than one blind motor to an output channel?

No, the blind motors may be destroyed. Each motor needs an output channel of its own.
